Last night was the Las Vegas screening of the Ashton Kutcher movie Spread at the movie theatre inside the Palms. I had originally found the ticket offer online and thought "What the hell" and signed up. My friend and I got to the Palms about three hours early (I wasn't sure what to expect of the event) and found out that the voucher we had needed to be redeemed for special tickets. When we got to the room for the special tickets, there was already a short line. So we waited. And waited. And waited. It was about two hours of waiting when we finally got our tickets but it was a pretty entertaining wait (other than the fact that my feet hurt like all hell). The tickets also came with free concession passes (woohoo!) and we proceeded to the theatre.
I have never walked a red carpet before. This was truly interesting. The food court at the Palms is usually just filled sparsely with tables and chairs but for the event, the chairs and tables had been pushed aside to make room for the velvet ropes meant to block away the "commoners" from the red carpet. We walked through. People screamed. They have no idea who we are. It was fun.
The movie got started late mostly because people (and no, not the people at the hotel. the theatre or the fine people who organized the event) are idiots and don't know how to get to a movie theatre early to ensure good seating. They caused a great bit of chaos and eventually we got the movie started. Of course, by then my drink was flat. Thank you, morons.
The movie was good. Much better than I had expected. Originally when my friend asked what the film was about I said "a guy who fucks a lot". Well, yeah, that was a pretty safe assertion; however, there was a pretty decent plotline and it was funny. We really enjoyed it. Sure, it had it's "OMG WTF" moments, but that was just because it was really explicit.
After the movie was over we headed to the after-party. This was awesome. Ghostbar is usually not a place we frequent as much because the crowd is older so the music is a bit older and we like to dance. Don't get me wrong, I think Ghostbar is gorgeous, but we just don't usually mesh well with the clientele. For this event, most of the club was open seating and there were even passed appetizers. It was a pretty great party.
So, to conclude this post, the night was pretty fantastic. Nothing like a red carpet, an exclusive after-party, and some drama to make an evening great. Oh wait, did I mention the whole thing was free? Yeah, that's the best part.
